Celebrity Inspiration: Princess Charlene & Prince Albert

I’ve been holding off on this post for a while. In the wake of our very own Charlene Wittstock’s wedding to Prince Albert of Monaco there were so many ugly rumours and questions and theories on whether or not she really wanted to be there, and whether her tears were tears of joy or regret. But when you come down to it, like all other couples, you can’t judge a relationship from the outside and since I don’t know the lovely Charlene, I won’t be judging her or her marriage either. But what I do here is talk about weddings, and since this was South Africa’s very own royal wedding, I can’t go without posting about it! Charlene and I are exactly the same age, so I felt like I understood many of her style choices – in many ways, her wedding was a modern realisation of the weddings we would have been dreaming of as little girls. It felt a little bit ’90s, but in a classic way, and I loved that. And of course, it was full of all the glitz and glam that you’d expect from the Monagasque, combined with some proudly South African touches. Here are my Top 10 steal-worthy details from Princess Charlene’s big day. Read more

Jersey Girls {Part 2}

I promised a follow up to my post on bridesmaids in cardigans, and here it is! And after all, why should your girls get to have all the pretty? There are so many reasons why this works for brides as well. First, if you’re having a religious ceremony and want to cover your shoulders, they’re a sweet and more laid back alternative to sleeves or a bolero. Or, if you’re getting married at a time of year where the weather isn’t going to be brilliant, wearing a cardie will be your saving grace through a long couple shoot (nothing worse than trying to look hot and relaxed when all you can think about his how chillsome you’re feeling!). Or your cardie could be a late night addition – perfect for wearing as your guests see you off into the cold evening air. Plus, cardigans are a great style choice for an autumn or winter wedding – they add a pop of colour to your white dress and work in anything from soft, neutral colours to statement brights. Have a look at these lovelies, worn by real brides around the web…

White Bridesmaid Dresses

Oh yes I did just get back on that Royal Wedding trends bandwagon. But you can’t blame me can you, because you just KNOW that after Pippa Middleton showed up in that dress, brides around the world were thinking “hmm, maybe I should have my bridesmaids in white too”… 2011 is definitely going to be the year where this particular taboo becomes history once and for all (although, for the record, if you’re a guest and you wear white you’re still an asshat). Just wait until you see the gorgeous white bridesmaid dress inspiration I have lined up for you!

Real Wedding at Westminster Abbey {Catherine & William}

I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her…

Remember that line from Notting Hill? Well, maybe I’m just a sucker for a good royal romance, but even with all the pomp and procession of the royal wedding, at the end of the day that’s what I felt like it came down to. Just a boy and a girl, standing in front of each other and promising to spend their lives together. I know we also all bought into the last big royal romance (and look how that turned out), but Kate and William really did seem totally jubilant and in love, and I loved being part of the London celebrations. I’m sure you’re sick to death of reading about it (are you though, really?) but after a week of reflection, here’s my take – the Top 10 things I loved about last Friday’s royal wedding!
