Romantic Forest Engagement Session

Happy Friday everyone! Before you take yourselves off for the weekend, I have such a sweet e-session from photographer Adri Meyer of Karin and Herman (who were engaged just after the soccer World Cup started in South Africa). Sometimes, it’s great to have a styled shoot full of props and fun and details. But sometimes, there’s just nothing better than a girl and a boy in a forest with beautiful, beautiful light. These pics remind me a little of Twilight – yes, I know, you’ve heard enough about Twilight in the last week, but don’t these lovely shots remind you of Bella and Edward in the clearing? Just the intimacy of spending time together somewhere tranquil with one another. Here’s wishing you all a weekend of lovely moments.

Real Life Bride Engagement Shoot

Huge excitement on the blog this afternoon! I finally get to tell you something I have been dying to let out of the bag for MONTHS now. We have a brand new real life bride!!! That’s right! Those of you who have been reading the blog for a while will remember that this time last year we started following Anelle of Seven Swans, as she and her hubby Dirk prepared to tie the knot in style (and did they ever – you can catch Anelle’s wedding in the latest Sarie Bruid, as well as our full feature right here). And now it’s time to introduce you to a brand new friend, who will be sharing her inspirations for decor, dresses, suppliers, stationery – you name it! Meet Cape Town photographer Cheryl McEwan (whose work has been featured right here on Cap Classique already, and who is also a dear friend of mine in the industry). Cheryl is fun, passionate and so lovely, and I can’t WAIT to find out everything she has been getting up in to planning her big day with fiance Sven. Cheryl will be back on Monday to share their story with you herself, but in the meantime, I wanted to show you their adorable engagement session from the fab Claire King of Photography by Claire Nicola. Welcome to Cap Classique, Cheryl!

Ghost House Engagement Shoot

Morning lovelies! It’s been a while since we had an e-shoot here on Cap Classique, so I thought it was time to share this rustic one from Cape Town photographers Allan and Wendy Thomas of Art Photo. I just love the location they chose for their couple, Gary and Michelle – an abandoned house on a dairy farm outside Durbanville. It’s so mysterious, and the dilapidated buildings add a lot of texture to the photos. Don’t be afraid to try something different for your engagement shoot instead of the standard white tee shirts and jeans on the beach thing – your photographer may have some interesting ideas for a location just waiting for the right couple, so be sure to ask! Thanks Allan and Wendy for sharing!

Disney Pixar’s UP-themed Engagement Shoot

You guys, I am SO excited about today’s feature! A few weeks ago, I got an email from the lovely Erica, telling me about a near-disaster she and fiance Jeremy had when booking their wedding photography. But luck was on their side, as they won a free engagement shoot with Jenny Linh, who ultimately became their wedding photographer as well. It’s so important that a couple gels with their photographer – at its best, it can become an incredible creative partnership, which is just what happened with Erica, Jeremy and Jenny. They decided to do one half of their shoot themed on the movie UP, and the second more traditional and formal. After my feature on movie-themed engagement shoots last year, you can imagine how much I’m loving their take on this sweet film! And now I can share it with you. Thanks so much for sharing Jenny, and congrats Erica and Jeremy on your engagement and marriage!

Vintage Market Engagement Shoot

As you know, I like to keep things on this blog pretty Cape Town focused. I’m not even from Cape Town (although I adore it), so this isn’t due to a lack of enthusiasm for the rest of the country, just that the Cape is where a lot of brides and grooms choose to get married, and I think I can best serve you, the reader, by being pretty focused. But some days I come across photographers and other providers in the rest of the country and let out a little wail, because not fair, I want to feature them too. Plus, I know some of you are jazzing to have some of those fabulous people available in the Cape. Well, *whoosh*, the wish fairy has waved her magic wand this morning and granted us a lovely little gift! Today I get to feature the work of Kat Forsyth, who has been making waves down Gauteng way for a while, and whose pictures I know you are going to love. Read more

Romantic Australian Engagement Shoot

South Africans. We’re everywhere. And I don’t just mean where I live in South West London, where we basically run rampant, talking Afrikaans on the tube and buying biltong and Fritos from the corner shop. I mean that, in my experience, you can go to the most random place in the world and discover a South African connection. Walk down just about any street, and hear someone say ja. Sssh, but I think we’re secretly taking over the world.

Take today’s engagement shoot, which is, by the way, ADORABLE.  It took place in sunny Australia and the bride-to-be (Lili) is an Aussie but the groom (Brad) is from Cape Town. And that’s not where the Saffaness ends, because the photographer, Courtney Raper, just happens to be an Aussie marrying a South African as well. In fact, they’re getting married in Cape Town next year, and found their venue, photographer, florist and makeup artist right here on Cap Classique. YAY. Read more

Colourful Bo-Kaap Engagement Shoot

Today I get to introduce you to three awesome people. First of all, is Cape Town photographer Charlene Schreuder. Charlene sent over this ahhhdorable engagement session, all shot in the Bo-Kaap, a fabulously colourful area of Cape Town (also known as the place I landed up instead of Plumstead when the satnav on my last rental car went crazytown on me… I’m just good with navigation like that). I fell in love with it, and with the couple in the pictures, who show how to absolutely rock an e-session – they’re fun, they’re playful, they’re affectionate, they’re relaxed, they’re incredibly photogenic. I guess it’s no surprise that not only are they Charlene’s dear friends, but are brilliant photographers themselves – meet Kerry and Luis of Piteira Photography in Lisbon, Portugal. (And sometimes also of Cape Town, South Africa, in case you thought our friends in Portugal had all the luck!) Every time I look at Charlene’s pictures I have a new favourite, and I know you will love them too. Read more

Mountain Climbing Engagement Session

Today’s engagement session is just beyond cool! And so different. When photographer Mark Engelbrecht (a climber himself) found out Jorina and Stefan were keen mountaineers, the three of them hatched a plan for a truly unique photo shoot. Talk about tying the knot! And despite shooting with one hand while suspended from a rope, Mark got some beautiful images of this couple, absolutely in their element. I’m so excited to feature this here today! Read more

Urban Chic Engagement

Some photographers and couples will really go above and beyond to get a great shot, and today’s session is quite an example! Ashley and Gren wanted something a bit different for their engagement shoot with the awesome Warren Williams, so they ventured into one of the dodgier parts of Cape Town for their photos. Despite a couple of worrying moments they fortunately emerged unscathed, and I just love the pictures they got as a result! Read more

The Bright Lights of Joburg Engagement Shoot

I have a special bonus for y’all this afternoon! Fab Gauteng photographer Alana Meyer contacted me recently with this sweet engagement session shot in and around Johannesburg (just for a little change of scenery from the Cape). Lauren and Nick are big fans of their home city and wanted to communicate a bit of Jozi vibrancy in their pictures. They started at WITS University and landed up in the city centre. I think they turned out just gorgeous! Thanks to Nick, Lauren and Alana for sharing with us!

Alana also sent over some background from Lauren on how she and Nick got engaged…

Nick sent me an invitation to celebrate us moving in together. The invite said it would be a picnic at sunset overlooking Jo’burg city lights. I was a little suspicious but with it being a Wednesday night, I thought not a lot of it. So, in the pouring rain we drove up to the Observatory, which has an incredible view of Jo’burg (this was a place Nick and I had visited a year before and I had dreamt that this was the place Nick was to propose.) Well lo and behold, Nick was thinking the same thing!

So… there we were in the pouring rain, Nick and I out on the viewing deck holding tightly on to our umbrellas as the wind tried to turn them inside out leaving us to get cold and wet. At this point, we decided to rather go home for the picnic but before we left we wanted to explore the little library that was on this hill. So we ran around the building, and around the corner we found a little verandah which was sheltered from the wind and rain and we set up the picnic there.

Nick handed me the picnic basket to unpack while he poured the wine. The food he’d packed was fantastic, and I was getting excited with each tupperware of prawns, chicken, cheese and then right at the bottom next to the carrot tupperware was something that was certainly not edible, but it was a very distinct box shape. At that point my heart jumped out of my body and to get it under control I took out the carrots and looked to see a very inquisitive Nick peering at me. I pulled out the box, gave it to him, at which point he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I said YES with all my heart.
