Swan Wedding #16: The Wedding!

Five months of wedding planning whizzed past in a hurricane filled with expectations, crazy ideas, fun, stress, nerves and plenty of love. It is so easy to get bogged down in the details like how many metres of bunting we need, making sure the canapes are awesome and what song to walk in to at the reception. From choosing the colour scheme to deciding on the main course or the flavour of wedding cake… it is fun, but one can easily lose track of what is really REALLY important.

In less than a week’s time I will be getting married to the love of my life – a man that makes me laugh until my mascara sits under my chin, who showers me with kisses on my nose/cheeks/hair/eyelashes, who dreams big dreams, believes in me and even laughs at my stupid jokes. He walks in the Light, honours me and when he says he loves me, I can feel it sink deep down into my baby toes. He is my best friend and my bestest teammate and I cannot wait to share my life with him! (in five days!! YAY!)

I found the following quote from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin on one of my favourite blogs, Head vs Heart and since it really rings true for both me and Dirk, I wanted to share it with you.

Love is a temporary madness; it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.

A note from Gaby: It’s finally here!!! I am beyond excited about Anelle and Dirk’s big day and if you have been following along with the planning journey you’ll agree. So much thought and planning and creativity has gone into all of this couple’s planning decisions, and I know the real thing is going to be spectacular! But along with the details, it’s always been clear that this is first and foremost a celebration of two people who are crazy about each other and – like the picture above says – true love IS a big deal. So Anelle and Dirk, here’s wishing you a beautiful, stress-free day, that is everything you hoped it would be, and more than that a life together filled with laughter and life and joy and LOVE. Congratulations! xxx

The best thing is, this isn’t the end of it. Next week, we have an AWESOME surprise to celebrate the wedding, and after that you’d better believe we’ll have a full feature, with every little detail so you can see how it all turned out.

If you think up to now was a mind-blowingly-awesome journey – just wait for the epic journey after the wedding (not that I would know, but from what I have seen in your relationship thus far). Here’s to a happy, fun, loving and exhilirating life together as Mr. & Mrs. Mostert!

    Vive l’amour!

1 Cor 13: “… If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things… So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
