It’s official! Harry and Meghan (aka the Duke and Duchess of Sussex) are married! And with a guest list that meshed Hollywood royalty with actual royalty, the Royal Wedding 2018 is certain to go down as the wedding of the year. I’ve seen lots of mixed opinions about Meghan Markle’s wedding dress and big day style in general but I personally LOVED it – I think the gown was incredibly chic and looked stunnning on her, and that she accessorised it to perfection. I have a feeling it’ll go down as being just as iconic as the gown Princess Catherine wore a few years ago, and I have no doubt that many brides-to-be will be influenced by Meghan’s minimalist elegance, both at the wedding ceremony itself, and at the evening reception, where she wore a halter neck gown and aquamarine cocktail ring. In an enchanted forest setting, surrounded by their nearest and dearest, Kelly and Shaun’s dream wedding came to life. The couple decided to do as much as they could themselves, bringing their personalities into every detail they handcrafted and styled for their woodland ceremony and reception, from decor to favours. Love that! And I also LOVE that they decided on food truck catering, because OMG how fun, right? Forests and food trucks – two of our favourite things. Bold Feminine Industrial Wedding at The Old Tannery by Jenni Elizabeth

You guys, THIS WEDDING. I first came across Mitzi and Klara’s big day on Insta, since Mitzi is one of SA’s top DJs (and has been featured multiple times on SBB) as DJ Chopper. I was instantly in love. An outdoor ceremony and reception in an unpolished, industrial setting, filled with bright blooms and tropical greenery, a tangible feeling of love and celebration, and two beautiful brides who clearly couldn’t keep their eyes off one another. I adore the bold palette of black and metallics underpinning pops of gorgeous colour, and the way that even though the couple chose an open, non-weddingy space (in the traditional sense), it has such a feeling of warmth and intimacy thanks to that palette, combined with clever lighting and reflective, transparent elements. Best of all, it looks like it was an absolute blast! The super talented Jenni Elizabeth was behind the camera, and was gracious enough to share these lovely images with us today. What do you get when you pair simple, modern style with a touch of classic wedding formality and a dabble of rustic charm? Talia and Tiaan’s big day, that’s what! These sweethearts tied the knot at White Light, one of our fave venues, and really brought their shared love of ‘less is more’ into their wedding style, which was no-fuss without being boring and low-key while still being romantic and grand. Not an easy line to walk, but these two did it perfectly. Talia wore a spectacular Jeannelle l’Amour gown, and Tiaan and dashing Hugo Boss suit, and the awesome Carla Adel captured every second of the day from behind the lens. When it comes to describing Coral and Devon’s dreamy, elegantly rustic wedding, I can’t think of any better way than as the lovely Eileen of Bright Girl Photography told it to me! “I knew their wedding would be amazing, but I was blown away when I arrived and saw all the beautiful decor and the warm sunshine bouncing off the green leaves in the forest where the ceremony was going to take place. It was magical. When Coral slipped her dress on, the magic continued… The friends, the flowers, the tears of happiness and all the stones which the guests held throughout the ceremony… all was magic or so it seemed. I mean who else can catch popcorn with a smiling mouth wide open with laughter while leading his gorgeous bride up the aisle. Yes, Devon can! These two were wrapped with warmth and love for each other and from their friends and family.” Awwww! Sometimes you don’t get what you ask for in life, but what you do get is so much better. Just ask today’s bride, Cristy, who went on a mission to buy U2 tickets when they came up for sale in a pub she was in – didn’t make it to the concert, but she snagged a local muso, Nick, as her sweetheart instead! Fast forward to Nick and Cristy’s wedding in the tranquil bushveld surroundings of Fatherland Estate, a day filled with both chic rustic touches and sentimental and heirloom details, and a ceremony that brought them full circle as two of Nick’s bandmates serenaded Cristy down the aisle. I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for a botanical print. Love ’em. Love ’em anywhere, any size, on anything. (Especially tropical botanicals, my goodness!) Today’s wedding (of two teenage sweethearts grown into a loving bride and groom) takes botanical art and makes it a focus, right from the invitation through to the table settings and even to the whimsical touch of floral print napkins-turned-installation on the walls. So awesome! Offset with copper and shades of pink and blush, as well as both elegantly rustic and chic transparent elements, Lize-Marié & Rikus’ wedding is a feast of textures for the eye, not least thanks to Michelle du Toit‘s always drop dead gorgeous photography! What do you get when you combine one of Cape Town’s most elegant and iconic venues with a beautiful traditional Hindu wedding? Today’s little gem, that’s what! Leticia and Deren wanted to bring all the rich colours and luxuriant fabrics, as well as all the meaningful traditions of an Indian wedding into their big day, but have it in a location that was intimate and special. Enter the 12 Apostles Hotel, and the cliffside ceremony space lodged between mountain and ocean was the perfect place for them to exchange vows. To say I’m in love with Leticia’s ensemble would be a vast understatement – she looks absolutely stunning, and the rich traditional red, gold and white colours worn by herself and her handsome groom make such a striking contrast to the serene beach where they had their couple photos! Claire Thomson took these gorgeous pics and I’m so excited to share them with you today!

Winter Wedding with Two Gorgeous Gowns at Bellwood Cottages by The Shank Tank

Once upon a time, there was a ballerina and a rugby player… if today’s wedding was a fairytale, it would start just like this, since Kayla and Shannon are a talented pair who met in their South African home town and now reside on the other side of the world living their dreams (Kayla is a dancer at the Paris Lido and Shannon plays rugby in France). Their wedding was country elegance at its finest – the prettiest details from top to bottom, perfect for a winter wedding in the Midlands! I especially love that there is a personal touch to almost everything, from the Starbucks favours to the brides TWO breathtaking gowns, which she worked on herself alongside her talented Parisian seamstress. It really gives a wedding that extra bit of magic to know that every detail has been thought about and personalised and crafted and has a story behind it, doesn’t it?
