Feather DIY Roundup

Time for some DIY goodness, brideys! And in line with our boho bent this month, I thought it was high time I rounded up some feathery goodness for your weddings. Feathers make a great motif for boho celebrations, and there are so many ways you can include them – plus, I adore the whole gold-dipped feather trend, which is perfect for boho luxe! Of course, make sure you source the feathers responsibly, and remember that you can always use paper instead of real (some of the tutorials below cover paper feathers, and even clay ones, which I love). Let’s go!

15 Free Printable Save the Dates

Free Save The Dates

In the world of wedding stationery, Save the Dates serve a really useful purpose. They mean you don’t have to worry about sending invitations too early (a tough call when, for example, you may not yet have nailed down your style or budget) but equally, they mean your guests have plenty of notice to make sure they can attend your wedding. So kind of a win-win. Of course, lots of brides and grooms these days send their STDs (worst wedding acronym ever) via email, which is a great budget and environment saver. But maybe you’d like to send something tangible, to get your guests excited for the celebration to come. Here’s the good news – while of course getting custom wedding Save the Dates created by your stationery designer is awesome, there are also loads of gorgeous (and free!) printable Save the Dates available online, whatever your wedding style. So today I’m rounding up 15 of my favourite free save the dates. Just click the links to make it happen and take your favourite design off to your fave on demand print service (and if you’d like to know more about wedding stationery timelines, see our feature).

DIY Bridesmaid Hair Roundup

So, as I mentioned this morning, I’m going to a wedding in a couple of weeks, and although I promised myself years ago that I would never do my own hair for another wedding (after that one time at band camp when it was 42 degrees in Stellenbosch and it all went horribly wrong), for various reasons, I’m going to have to. Which mean I’ve been browsing Pinterest and YouTube for tutorials on relaxed, easy updos. And I realised just how much is actually out there now in the way of fabulous DIY hair advice. Now as a bride, you’re still probably going to want to call in the professionals, but maybe the budget doesn’t stretch to having your girls’ hair done too, or maybe they just prefer to do it themselves, but that doesn’t mean that they have to be stuck with everyday hair unless they want to be. Today I’m rounding up fifteen gorgeous styles – many of them really easy – that would be absolutely perfect on bridesmaids. Just click through to the links for each tutorial, and don’t forget to do a practice run!Read More

Watercolour DIY Roundup

In the recent reader survey we did (results coming soon!), one thing that lots of you asked for was more DIY-related content here on the blog – we hear you! So you can expect to see more of our roundups and other DIYs heading your way soon. Today we’re touching on a trend that has grown and grown in weddings – I honestly just can’t get enough of the watercolour look, so much so that I’m planning on dabbling in painting watercolours myself (just for fun mind you, my artistic abilities don’t stretch very far). With this being a popular and versatile look, it’s no surprise that there are loads of really gorgeous watercolour DIY projects out there, and we’ve rounded up 15 of our favourites for you to choose from. (PS Loads of these come from local design powerhouse Susan Brand – love seeing South African talent out there!)

I say this all the time, but HOW is time going so fast? I could swear I’ve done loads of these DIY roundups this year, but when I looked at the archives, it turned out not so much. Eish. Spring Printable by Mocholoco

Happy Friday, lovelies! With the equinox coming up, we have such a lovely little spring printable for you today from the talented Vicky at Mocholoco. As well as being an awesome stationer, Vicky is also one of our real SouthBound Brides (her gorgeous DIY beach wedding was one of my favourites of 2013), and is also about to relaunch her website, so to celebrate, she created this gorgeous watercolour-style poster –  the perfect addition to your desk (or desktop). I’m not sure if brides and grooms always realise the huge amount of thought and process and creativity and hard work  that goes into producing bespoke stationery pieces, and I’m personally pretty fascinated by how it’s done. So instead of just presenting the finished product, I asked Vicky to give you all a little glimpse behind the scenes into her process. Blood, sweat and glitter! Thank you SO much, Vicky – be sure to click through to her site to see more of her lovely work.

Fun Favours: Macarons

Well, you KNOW it’s going to be a good week when it starts with macarons, right? These little bites of sunshine have firmly engrained themselves in the heart of brides and wedding bloggers alike – and not only are they delicious, but there’s something so pleasing about their smooth round shape, delightful flavours, and mix of colours. Which basically makes them the perfect wedding favour, because not only will they look lovely on your tables, but they’re not going to get left behind (in fact, most won’t make it to the end of the night uneaten – at least if I’m your guest!). For the talented bakers among you, it’s possible to do these as a DIY, but be aware that many a brilliant cook has tried and failed at macarons. Personally, I prefer to leave them to the professionals (more on that later this week). But wherever you procure yours from, here are some of my favourite macaron favour packaging ideas to inspire you.Read More

The web is an amazing place – so many creative people sharing their expertise and ideas, and so often for free. I often come across gorgeous bridal shower printables that would fit into a variety of decor schemes, so I thought today I would gather some of my favourites into one place, for easy reference. Here you’ll find everything from hen party games to bachelorette invitations, from recipe cards and gift tags to decor items. All you need to do is click over to the source page, download, customise where relevant, and send to your favourite on-demand printing service. Where relevant, the designer as well as the original source of the hen party printables is listed – if you like their work and you’re looking for something customised, why not click through to see more of their portfolio?
