Inspiration Board: Glam Safari

Happy Monday, lovelies! It’s time for our weekly colour inspiration, and today we’re bringing you a board that would be perfect for a glam safari wedding, or one where the couple want to showcase their love of Africa. It started with the image top left for me – I just loved the idea of a gold zebra print paired with navy and elegant flowers like white orchids. For this look, you’ll want to stay subtle with the animal print details (although I’ve sneaked in some lion cakes and gold animal swizzle sticks (also a great idea for place settings), which allows the overall look to be sophisticated and not too themey. As an extra nod to safari style, I love the idea of leather luggage tag favours. Add in groomsmen and bridesmaids in smart navy, touches of glamorous gold including a cuff for the bride, and an ultra modern cake (not seen a navy one before – don’t you love it?), and you have the perfect combination for bushveld black tie.

Inspiration Board: Pansy & Pastel

Hello friends! We’re entering the final stretch of the year now, and I don’t know about you, but my head is all over Christmas and new year. Starting next week, we’ll be looking back at our favourite parts of the year here on SBB, but first, we still have some more fresh inspiration to send your way. And first up is this pretty inspiration board, which mixes a strong pansy purple with soft pastel greens and blues. I think it’s so pretty, don’t you? And absolutely lovely for a summer wedding, allowing you to bring in the bright berry shades that are so popular at the moment, balanced with the softer summer hues. Gorgeousness.

Inspiration Board: Copper & Blue Velvet

A couple of weeks back, I did an inspiration board featuring copper, grey, lilac and a touch of navy. Well, I loved that one, but the whole copper and navy combo clearly made a bit of an impression because ever since, I’ve been wanting to do a sort of antique but preppy-looking take on navy and grey with copper as the magic ingredient. And I have to say, I think it’s a winner – the perfect mix of modern, sophisticated and old world romance. One thing to remember if you pick a palette like this, is there’s no need to be matchy-matchy. For example, I love the idea of having the bridesmaids in white, and the groom and his guys in grey. So stylish! But it also means you don’t have overkill on the colours, which on a blank(ish) canvas, really speak for themselves.

Inspiration Board: Chic Antique

Happy Monday lovelies! Before I dive into today’s board, I just wanted to wish the lovely Louise of b.loved a HUGE congrats on her new site and brand – be sure to head over and check it out!
You know, it’s not so long since the vintage trend swept wedding world, but since then things have come a long way as brides and grooms try to find new ways to introduce antique elements and still keep their decor personal and unique. One way to do this is through colour – the first wave of vintage often fell back on neutral palettes, but I think today’s pastel combo has a lovely Victorian feel. I also love how the navy blue sort of anchors the softer colours, and introduces a more grown up aspect. Add a completely swoony old world invitation suite and a chic, one-of-a-kind print wedding dress, and you have the perfect ingredients for a chic antique wedding day!

Inspiration Board: Bright Sunshiney Day

For the last couple of weeks, we’ve been exploring Pantone’s Spring 2015 palette, and today we have another lovely combination, bringing together pastel blue and yellow with a pretty sea green shade. I love how the combination of the blue and green adds depth, and then the yellow is a bright pop of action against these serene shades – perfect for a summer wedding in my opinion. It’s also a fresh alternative to the yellow and grey colour scheme that is still so popular, as it has the same mix of cool and bright.

Inspiration Board: Summer Toile

Morning loves! It’s inspiration board Monday, and as promised, I have another board mixing and matching the colours from Pantone’s Spring 2015 palette. Recently I have been loving pinks and blues together, and this is such a fresh way of doing it – a bright blue a few shades up from navy, a sweet rosy pink and another, softer, blue (as well as a few softer shades of pink and lots of white). Pair with a touch of toile and some ripe blueberries, and you have the perfect summer wedding style.

Colours: Pantone Aquamarine, Classic Blue & Strawberry Ice and pastel pink

Top row (l-r): Place setting {Cheryl McEwan/SouthBound Bride}; bride with veil {Erich Mcvey}; bouquet {Jessica Burke Photography}
Row 2: Bridesmaid with bouquet {Luna Photo/Alchemy Fine Events/Krista Jon}; toile envelope liner {Katie Stoops/Pyramid Atlantic}; blueberry garland {Love Life Studios}

Inspiration Board: Something Blue

Welcome back, lovelies! I hope you’re ready for a gorgeous new week. I’ll be spending the first few days of it away from my computer for once, enjoying some relaxing mom and daughter spa time in the Drakensberg. As I write this, I can’t wait – feel free to be made jealous by following me on Instagram. Anyway, in the meantime I’m turning back to the Pantone Spring 2015 colours I introduced last week, with the first of a few full inspiration boards that include these gorgeous shades. Today I’ve combined two of the spring blues – Classic Blue and Aquamarine – with the warm neutral, Toasted Almond. It’s a pretty, preppy mix, and absolutely perfect for a fresh, modern wedding.

Inspiration Board: National Velvet

You guys, velvet is BACK. The texture that I was in love with when planning my matric dance dress circa 1995 and that did a disappearing act thereafter has come full circle in the cool stakes. So right about now, I’m in love with velvet as a warm fabric that adds that extra touch of luxe to a celebration. We’re not talking full scale velvet, but we are talking velvet ribbons tied around cutlery, menus or bouquets, velvet bowties (how much do we love the bow as a hairpiece below?), even a velvet suit for the daring retro groom. Best of all, I love the colours that velvet comes in, and today I’ve mixed together a gorgeous dusky rose with a soft blue, as well as a navy – all readily available in this texture. Welcome back, old friend.

Inspiration Board: Beach Sundowner

Happy Monday friends! It’s a super exciting day here on SBB, as later on we’ll be announcing the finalists for our first ever styled shoot competition. But first, it’s time for some inspiration of our own with the Monday moodboard. Today I’m loving coral (a colour trend that just keeps on going!) mixed with a cool, pale blue – a lovely fresh take on this colour combination and perfect for a laid-back beach celebration (or any celebration, really!). Reflecting the colours of the beach at sunset, it’s the perfect was to kick off a dusky ceremony and a dinner under the stars.
